Dr Angirash Bhattacharyya, a resident of Tezpur, has secured the first position in the Master of Chirurgiae (MCh) Neurosurgery final examination, conducted by the Srimanta Sankaradeva University of Health Sciences. He was awarded a gold medal for his performance at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH).
The D.M. and M.Ch. Examination results for December 2025 were announced on December 31, officials said.

Dr Bhattacharyya qualified for the MCh Neurosurgery course with an All India Rank of 86 in 2023. He completed:
- Schooling at Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Baghchung
- Higher secondary education at J.B. College, Jorhat
- MBBS, postgraduate degree in General Surgery, and post-doctoral super-speciality training in Neurosurgery from GMCH

Aspirations ahead
Speaking to GPlus, Dr Bhattacharyya said he hopes to continue working at GMCH to further refine his skills. “If possible, I would like to move back to Tezpur in the future. I also aspire to join academia as an Assistant Professor,” he said.
Family background
Dr Bhattacharyya is the son of Mridul Bhattacharjee, a retired Superintending Engineer, and Ranjana Sharma, a retired Chief Engineer of Assam Power Distribution Company Limited (APDCL). His wife, Debangana Sharmah, is an Assistant Engineer in the Panchayat and Rural Development Department.
He credited his success to the academic discipline and values instilled by his family, noting that his background in social service and education played a key role in shaping his career.
