In view of the prevailing cold wave conditions across Guwahati and adjoining areas, school timings in Kamrup (Metropolitan) district will be rescheduled from January 7 to January 13, 2026, authorities have announced.
The decision has been taken by the District Elementary Education Office under the Axom Sarba Siksha Abhijan Mission, following directions from the District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, keeping student health and safety in mind during the ongoing cold spell.
According to the official order issued on Tuesday, the revised timings will apply to all government, provincialised, and private schools in the district.
Revised School Timings (Jan 7–13)
- Primary Schools: 10:00 am to 1:30 pm
- Upper Primary Schools: 10:00 am to 2:00 pm
- Secondary & Senior Secondary Schools: 10:00 am to 2:30 pm
All heads of institutions have been directed to strictly follow the revised schedule, with officials warning that any deviation will be taken seriously.
The order clarified that the timing change has been introduced purely in the interest of public safety and student welfare, especially for younger children who are more vulnerable to extreme cold during early morning hours.
However, authorities also stated that pre-scheduled examinations will continue as per the earlier notified timetable, and the revised timings will not affect exam schedules.
With temperatures dipping across the city over the past few days, the move has brought relief to parents and students alike, as Guwahati continues to experience one of its colder winter phases in recent years.
