North Guwahati Lights Up in Tribute to Zubeen Garg with Earthen Lamps

GUWAHATI, September 20: The wave of mourning for Assam’s music legend Zubeen Garg reached North Guwahati on Friday evening, where locals came together to pay heartfelt homage in a unique way.

Residents decorated the open grounds with thousands of earthen lamps (diyas), forming the words “জয় জুবিন দা” (Joi Zubeen Daa) in Assamese. The glowing tribute lit up the night, reflecting the collective grief and respect of the community for the cultural icon.

A large banner with Zubeen’s photograph, adorned with traditional Assamese gamosa and garlands, stood at the center of the vigil. Families, children, and elders gathered, offering prayers and remembering the singer whose music has been the heartbeat of generations.

One local resident said, “This is the least we could do for the man who gave us an identity through his songs. Lighting these lamps is our way of telling him his legacy will never fade.”

The air was filled with chants of “Joi Zubeen Daa” as people bowed with folded hands, tears in their eyes, while the flickering lamps painted an emotional picture of remembrance.

As Guwahati continues to mourn the legend, tributes like these across different localities show how deeply Zubeen’s life and music touched the soul of Assam.
