Guwahati, Sept 28 (Sasthi):
The city of Guwahati is ushering in Durga Puja 2025 with grandeur and spirituality, as the Sri Sri Dakhineswari Kalibari Durga Puja Committee unveils a spectacular pandal modeled after the sacred Kedarnath Temple. Celebrating its 72nd year, the committee has taken the festive artistry to new heights, blending devotion with architectural brilliance.
About the Theme
The Kedarnath Temple replica has been designed with meticulous detailing to reflect the aura of the holy shrine nestled in the Himalayas. Built on an estimated budget of ₹6 lakh, the pandal aims to provide devotees with a spiritually immersive experience that goes beyond visual delight, recreating the serene ambiance of Kedarnath in the heart of Guwahati.
The structure incorporates temple-style carvings, traditional lighting, and artistic embellishments, ensuring that devotees feel a sense of divine connection as they walk through.
Inauguration Ceremony
The grand inauguration was held yesterday, on Maha Panchami (September 27), and was officiated by Siddhartha Bhattacharya, Member of the Assam Legislative Assembly. The occasion was marked by traditional rituals, the unveiling of the idol, and the lighting of the ceremonial lamps, officially commencing the five-day festival at the Kalibari.
Devotees’ Expectations
As one of the oldest puja committees in Guwahati, the Sri Sri Dakhineswari Kalibari Durga Puja has been a cultural and spiritual hub for over seven decades. The Kedarnath theme has already created a buzz across the city, attracting thousands of devotees eager to witness the divine craftsmanship and seek blessings.
Local residents believe the theme resonates deeply, especially after years of rising popularity of temple-inspired pandals across India. For many, this is not just about celebrating Durga Puja but also about experiencing the sacred essence of Kedarnath without leaving Assam.
Cultural Significance
Over the years, Guwahati’s Durga Puja celebrations have gained fame for their thematic innovations. By choosing Kedarnath as this year’s central theme, the Kalibari committee has combined devotion with cultural representation, bringing together art, faith, and community spirit.
