GUWAHATI, September 28: The Maligaon Kalibari Durga Puja has added a historic touch to this year’s celebrations as it marks its Platinum Jubilee. To honor the occasion, the puja committee has unveiled a magnificent Maa Durga idol crafted by Padma Shri awardee Sanatan Rudra Pal, one of India’s most acclaimed sculptors.
Sanatan Rudra Pal, known for his traditional artistry blended with fine detailing, has created an idol that devotees describe as both divine and awe-inspiring. The craftsmanship reflects the grace of the goddess while paying homage to Assam’s deep-rooted devotion to Durga.
The Maligaon Kalibari Puja, which began 75 years ago as a small community gathering, has grown into one of Guwahati’s most respected and spiritual festive centers. This year, the Platinum Jubilee celebrations are drawing not only locals but also devotees from across the city and nearby towns.
Organizers have also arranged a series of cultural and devotional programs alongside the rituals, making the Maligaon Kalibari a must-visit pandal during Durga Puja 2025.
