GUWAHATI, September 27: In a major boost to the city’s connectivity and infrastructure, two new rail overbridges, one at Panbazar and another at Panikhaiti, were inaugurated today. The announcement was made by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday, who emphasized the importance of the projects in easing congestion and improving daily commute for residents.
The overbridges are expected to significantly reduce traffic bottlenecks, particularly in Panbazar, which has long struggled with heavy vehicle and pedestrian congestion due to railway crossings. The Panikhaiti bridge, meanwhile, is set to improve connectivity for the rapidly growing suburban areas, benefitting both local residents and businesses.
“These new rail overbridges will not only ease congestion but also give a major push to travel and business activities across Guwahati,” the Chief Minister said during the announcement.
With Guwahati witnessing rapid urban growth, the addition of these overbridges is seen as a much-needed relief for commuters, traders, and transport services that frequently face delays at railway crossings.
The inauguration marks another step forward in Assam’s push for modern, efficient infrastructure, aimed at making Guwahati a hub of commerce and culture in the Northeast.
