GUWAHATI, Sept 20, around 4:15 PM: Even as the city continues to mourn singer Zubeen Garg, Guwahati witnessed a dramatic and unexpected incident this evening when a major water pipeline burst near the Chandmari flyover, stunning both residents and commuters.
The sudden rupture sent water gushing several feet into the air, so high that the spray visibly rose above the flyover, creating a scene that left onlookers shocked.
Visible Across Localities
The force of the burst was so powerful that the jets of water could be seen from nearby areas, including Rajgarh, Zoo Road, Rajgarh, and Bamunimaidam. Many residents captured the spectacle on their phones as commuters halted in their tracks to avoid the spray.
Chaos on the Road
Traffic in the Chandmari area slowed to a crawl as vehicles swerved to avoid the waterlogging caused by the burst. Pedestrians were also seen rushing for cover while locals gathered to witness the unusual sight.
“I was crossing the flyover when suddenly water rose up like a fountain, almost touching the vehicles above. For a moment, it felt like a scene from a movie,” said Priyanka Sharma, a resident of Rajgarh who was commuting back from work.
Officials Yet to Respond
At the time of reporting, no official statement has been issued by the Guwahati Jal Board or civic authorities. Residents fear the incident could affect water supply to parts of the city in the coming days, while others expressed concerns about the safety of aging pipelines across Guwahati.
A Day of Contrasts for the City
The pipeline burst comes on a day when Guwahati is already under a wave of grief following reports of Zubeen Garg’s passing. While chants of “Joi Zubeen Da” echoed across Kahilipara, residents in Chandmari witnessed an entirely different spectacle — one that added to the city’s sense of uncertainty and tension.
