SIT Receives Zubeen Garg’s Viscera Report from CFSL Delhi; GMCH to Submit Final Post-Mortem Soon

Guwahati, Oct 11: In a key development in the ongoing probe into the death of Assam’s music icon Zubeen Garg, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Assam Police’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has received the viscera report from the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in Delhi.

Confirming the update, SIT Chief and Special DGP (CID) Munna Prasad Gupta said the report was received on Friday and has been forwarded to the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for expert examination.

“An expert committee constituted by GMCH will study the viscera report and prepare the final post-mortem report, which will then be submitted to the court. A copy will also be handed over to Zubeen Garg’s family,” Gupta told the media in Guwahati on Saturday.

The viscera samples were sent to Delhi following the second autopsy conducted at GMCH, after the legendary musician’s body was brought back from Singapore. The first autopsy had been carried out in Singapore shortly after his death on September 19, reportedly due to drowning during a private yacht event.

The viscera report is expected to play a crucial role in determining the exact cause of death. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier stated that the test results would reveal whether any poisoning was involved.

The investigation took a serious turn last week when Zubeen’s bandmate Shekhar Jyoti Goswami claimed that the singer was allegedly poisoned by his manager Siddharth Sharma and North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, both of whom were later arrested by the CID and remain under custody.

The SIT, led by Special DGP Gupta, continues to interrogate several individuals linked to the Singapore trip and has sought additional forensic and legal assistance under the Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty (MLAT) with Singapore to access evidence and witness statements.

Key Developments So Far:

  • CFSL Delhi submits viscera report to Assam CID.
  • GMCH expert panel to examine and finalize the post-mortem report.
  • The report will be shared with Zubeen’s family and the court.
  • CID probing poisoning claims linked to associates present during the Singapore trip.

As the state awaits the findings, public sentiment remains strong, with fans across Assam continuing to demand #JusticeForZubeenDa — urging a thorough, transparent, and conclusive investigation.
