GUWAHATI, September 28: The countdown to the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 has taken an exciting turn with the announcement of a star-studded opening ceremony in Guwahati. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed on 26th September that the cultural evening on September 30 will feature performances by some of the most celebrated voices in India.
Leading the lineup is Shreya Ghoshal, one of Bollywood’s most iconic playback singers, whose voice has defined an era of Indian music. Joining her will be Assam’s very own Papon, whose soulful songs have made him a household name across the country, and Joi Barua, the singer-composer known for his blend of Assamese roots and contemporary sounds.
Adding a special touch will be a performance by the Shillong Chamber Choir, renowned globally for their fusion of Western harmonies and Indian classical music. Their presence is expected to elevate the evening into a memorable cultural showcase for the Northeast.
The performances will take place at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai, Guwahati, just before the inaugural clash between India and Sri Lanka.
With Guwahati set to host five matches of the Women’s World Cup, the opening ceremony promises to highlight not just the spirit of cricket but also the rich cultural heritage of Assam and the Northeast.
