Guwahati, Oct 1: In a heartfelt tribute to Assam’s glorious heritage, a Rong Ghar-themed Durga Puja pandal at Nambari, Maligaon has emerged as one of the city’s most talked-about attractions this festive season.
The pandal inspired by the 18th-century Ahom-era amphitheatre Rong Ghar in Sivasagar, captures the essence of Assamese architecture through its arched entrances, intricate motifs, and dome-style roofing. Illuminated beautifully at night, the structure has become a major crowd-puller for locals and visitors alike.
Organisers of the Nambari Durga Puja Committee shared that the concept was designed to “blend devotion with heritage,” giving visitors a chance to reconnect with Assam’s cultural roots while celebrating the festive spirit of Durga Puja.
“Rong Ghar is a pride of Assam, and we wanted to bring that pride to Guwahati this Puja. Every detail, from the brick-textured panels to the lighting, was made to resemble the original monument,” said one of the organisers.
As people step into the pandal, they are greeted by traditional Assamese xorai displays, bihu motifs, and a grand idol of Goddess Durga, set against a backdrop that feels like a page out of history.
With its fusion of art, architecture, and spirituality, the Nambari Rong Ghar-themed pandal stands as a glowing example of how Guwahati continues to celebrate its heritage with creativity and devotion.
