Guwahati, Oct 2: Marking the triumph of good over evil, a grand Ravan Dahan ceremony took place in North Guwahati on Vijaya Dashami evening, drawing hundreds of spectators despite the drizzle that followed Durga idol immersions earlier in the day.
The highlight of the celebration was a massive effigy of Dashanan Ravana, towering high and illuminated with fireworks. As the effigy went up in flames, cheers erupted from the crowd, echoing across the Brahmaputra.
Organised by local committees and youth groups, the event showcased traditional performances, bhajans, and street plays depicting the epic Ramayana moments leading up to the symbolic burning of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhkaran.
“We build the idol with care every year, but this time it was our biggest one yet — a 35-foot structure symbolising how evil may rise but never prevail,” said one of the organisers from North Guwahati.
Security arrangements were tight, with police, volunteers, and fire services ensuring a safe and smooth event. Families, children, and elderly residents gathered to witness the spectacular finale, turning the evening into a memorable close to the festive season.
