Guwahati, Sept 29: The heart of the city, Panbazar, witnessed a spiritual spectacle this Durga Puja as the local committee unveiled a magnificent Mahakal-themed pandal, drawing an overwhelming crowd of devotees and pandal-hoppers.
The theme, inspired by Lord Shiva’s Mahakal form, stood out for its powerful symbolism and artistic detailing. The pandal showcased intricate temple-style carvings, adorned pillars, and divine lighting effects that recreated the essence of Ujjain’s famed Mahakaleshwar temple.
Adding to the divine aura, Goddess Durga’s idol was dressed entirely in white, symbolizing purity and peace. The serene yet commanding look of the Devi’s pratima (idol) became a major talking point among visitors, setting this pandal apart from others across Guwahati.
Organisers of the Panbazar Durga Puja Committee said the Mahakal theme was chosen to represent the balance between strength and serenity values deeply embedded in both Durga and Mahakal worship. “This year’s concept is about divine protection and inner peace. The response from people has been overwhelming,” said a committee member.
By evening, long queues formed around the area as devotees flocked to witness the stunning idol and pay their respects. The combination of faith, artistry, and crowd energy has made Panbazar’s Mahakal-themed pandal one of the biggest attractions of Durga Puja 2025 in Guwahati.
