The historic Latasil Field in the heart of Guwahati turned into a ground of mourning and remembrance today, as hundreds of fans, admirers, and cultural enthusiasts gathered to pay homage to Zubeen Garg — the king of hearts and the voice of Assam.
An Ocean of Emotion
From students carrying placards to elderly admirers holding candles, the gathering at Latasil was marked by songs, silence, and tears. Groups of young fans sang Zubeen’s classics in chorus, while others lit diyas on the field in tribute.
“Latasil has hosted countless cultural events where Zubeen da performed. Today, it hosts his absence — and that is unbearable,” said Ananya Bora, a fan who traveled from Tezpur for the gathering.
The King Remembered
Crowds repeatedly chanted “Joi Zubeen Da”, turning the mourning into a rally of pride. To many, the field became more than just a mourning ground — it was a celebration of the legend’s legacy, as fans recalled how Zubeen’s music shaped Assamese identity across generations.
From Concert Grounds to Memorial Ground
Latasil has long been a hub for Assam’s cultural milestones — from Bihu performances to public concerts. Today, the same ground carried the weight of grief, as the city united to honor the man who once electrified its stages.
A Community United
As the sun set, hundreds held up candles, their flames swaying in the evening wind as the chorus of “Mayabini” filled the air. It was not just mourning — it was a collective promise to keep Zubeen’s music alive forever.
