Guwahati, Oct 14: The Vivekananda Sporting Club of Kalapahar, Colony Bazar, has announced “Har Har Mahadev” as the central theme for its 61st Grand Kali Puja and Diwali celebrations, scheduled to take place from October 20 to 22.
Spanning over three days, the event is expected to attract over two lakh devotees to witness rituals, worship, and a grand illumination display marking six decades of devotion and community celebration in one of Guwahati’s most prominent Puja venues.
Faith Meets Technology
This year’s highlight will be a laser-based light and sound show titled “Har Har Mahadev”, blending mythology with modern technology. Using synchronised audio-visual storytelling, the show will recreate key episodes from Hindu scriptures, creating a divine atmosphere that merges tradition and innovation.
The immersive experience aims to bring the legend of Lord Shiva to life, offering spectators both spiritual depth and artistic wonder.
Tribute to Zubeen Garg
In a heartfelt gesture, the organisers have cancelled all cultural programmes this year as a mark of respect to the late singer Zubeen Garg, whose untimely death on September 19 in Singapore left the state mourning.
“This year’s celebration will be more spiritual than festive. We are dedicating it entirely to worship and remembrance,” said a member of the organising committee.
The organisers added that devotional activities, chanting, and offerings will replace live music and entertainment segments traditionally held during the festival.

Since its inception, the Vivekananda Sporting Club has been known for its grand thematic celebrations and crowd-pulling artistry. From mythological recreations to modern symbolic designs, the club has consistently set benchmarks in Guwahati’s festive landscape.
This year’s edition — with its strong spiritual theme and emotional undertone is expected to stand out as one of the most memorable Kali Pujas in recent years.
