A forest fire that broke out at Jyotikuchi Dhopolia Hill under Lokhra in Guwahati on Friday evening (February 27) was swiftly brought under control by the Fire and Emergency Services (F&ESS).
According to officials, the emergency call was received at approximately 5:49 PM, prompting the immediate dispatch of multiple fire tenders to the hill area in Kamrup (Metro) district.
A forest fire at Jyotikuchi Dhopolia Hill in Guwahati’s Lokhra area was brought under control on February 27 by Fire and Emergency Services. Fire tenders and manual fire beaters were used due to steep terrain. No property damage or casualties were reported.
Blaze Spread Across Hill Terrain
Officials said the fire erupted in a jungle area and gradually spread across the hill’s terrain. Given the dry vegetation and evening wind conditions, there were concerns about the flames expanding further.
Firefighters began operations using Water Tenders (WTP), spraying water across accessible sections of the affected area.
Manual Efforts on Steep Slopes
Due to the steep and partially inaccessible upper portions of the hill, fire personnel had to switch to manual firefighting methods.
Using fire beaters, teams worked their way up the slopes to contain and extinguish the flames. In total, four water tanker loads were utilised to bring the situation under control.
No Damage Reported
Authorities confirmed that no property damage, injuries, or loss of life were reported in the incident.
Residents in nearby Lokhra and Jyotikuchi areas expressed relief after the fire was contained before it could threaten surrounding habitations.
The incident once again highlights the vulnerability of Guwahati’s hill areas during dry spells and the importance of swift emergency response.
