Fresh details have emerged in the fatal road accident near the Gauhati High Court that claimed the life of a 23-year-old woman on Monday night. Police said the crash occurred around 9:30 pm when a Maruti Alto lost control and slammed into roadside railings and an electric pole in central Guwahati.
The deceased has been identified as Neha Das, a resident of Fatasil Ambari. She was seated on the rear left seat of the vehicle at the time of the accident and sustained fatal head and facial injuries, police said.

Police said Kayum later arrived in the Alto and suggested a drive towards Belle View. The group set off but met with an accident before reaching their destination.
Crash Near High Court Stretch
Sources said the vehicle went out of control while attempting to avoid a rickshaw, crashing at high speed into roadside railings and an electric pole near the High Court area, one of Guwahati’s busiest corridors during evening hours.
Local residents reportedly confronted the driver immediately after the crash.
Police Action and Arrests
Personnel from Panbazar Traffic Police reached the spot, recovered Neha’s body, seized the damaged vehicle, and detained the driver, Kayum Saiyed. During questioning, Kayum allegedly admitted he was driving at high speed under the influence of alcohol, police said.
Police later arrested Parbin Soni. However, Akshay Jalan and Omar Sayyed fled the scene immediately after the crash and remain absconding. A search operation is underway to trace them.
Officials also said the Alto involved in the crash belonged to one of Kayum’s friends, identified as Akash.
