Dr. Niranjan Kalita Takes Oath as Vice Chancellor of Assam Veterinary and Fishery University

Guwahati, Oct 13: Assam Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya on Monday administered the oath of office to Dr. Niranjan Kalita, appointing him as the new Vice Chancellor of the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University (AVFU). The swearing-in ceremony took place at the conference hall of Raj Bhavan, Guwahati, in a formal event attended by senior government officials and academic dignitaries.

Prior to the oath, Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor, S. S. Meenakshi Sundaram, sought the Governor’s permission to commence the proceedings. The ceremony marked Dr. Kalita’s official assumption of office, ushering in a new chapter for the university, which serves as one of Assam’s premier institutions for veterinary and fishery sciences.

Strengthening Assam’s Veterinary and Fishery Education

Located in Khanapara, Guwahati, the Assam Veterinary and Fishery University has played a crucial role in advancing livestock, animal health, and fisheries education in the state. It also serves as a centre for research, innovation, and community extension programmes that directly impact Assam’s agricultural economy.

With Dr. Kalita at the helm, expectations are high for enhanced academic standards, infrastructure development, and greater collaboration between the university and the state’s animal husbandry and fisheries sectors.

“Our goal will be to align education and research with Assam’s growing agri-fishery economy and to empower the next generation of professionals,” Dr. Kalita said following his oath.
