Guwahati, Sept 30: Cricket fever has gripped Guwahati as fans began arriving early at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium, Barsapara, ahead of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 opening clash between India and Sri Lanka.
The atmosphere outside the stadium is electric with tricolour flags, painted faces, and chants for Team India filling the air. The highly anticipated match, scheduled to begin at 3 PM, marks the start of India’s campaign in the tournament and is being hosted in Guwahati for the first time.
Fans from across Assam and neighbouring states queued up since morning to secure their spots, many wearing jerseys bearing the names of Indian cricket icons. Local vendors and food stalls have sprung up near the stadium, turning the area into a festive hub of celebration.
Security arrangements have been strengthened, and Guwahati Police have implemented a detailed traffic plan to manage the massive turnout (read full advisory on Our Guwahati’s previous post).
Adding to the excitement, the opening ceremony dedicated to the late music legend Zubeen Garg will feature performances by Shreya Ghoshal, Papon, Joi Barua, and the Shillong Chamber Choir, making today not just a sporting spectacle but an emotional celebration for the people of Assam.
