Assam HSLC 2026 Begins Feb 10: Tight Security Across Guwahati Centres

Guwahati: With the Class 10 High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examinations set to begin on February 10, the Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB), in coordination with the state education department and district administration, has implemented strict security measures across exam centres in Guwahati and the rest of Assam.

Officials confirmed that exams this year will be conducted only in government schools, with CCTV surveillance, flying squads, and police deployment in place to prevent malpractice and ensure secure handling of question papers.

Assam HSLC 2026 exams will begin on February 10 with heightened security measures in Guwahati and across the state. Exams will be held only in government schools with CCTV monitoring, police deployment, flying squads and secure question paper handling to prevent malpractice.

Extra Vigilance After Last Year’s Leak

An education department official told GPlus that authorities are taking additional precautions following last year’s question paper leakage incident.

“After last year’s question paper leakage, this year we are extra cautious and have intensified the protocols,” the official said. He added that CCTV cameras, flying squads, and other safeguards have been reinforced across centres.

Guwahati’s Centres Under Close Monitoring

In Guwahati, several high-candidate and sensitive centres have been identified for enhanced monitoring. Police deployment has been made mandatory at examination venues, particularly in schools located in densely populated areas.

Flying squads comprising education officials and magistrates will conduct surprise inspections during exam hours. Authorities have also mandated biometric or manual attendance tracking of invigilators to ensure accountability.

Secure Handling of Question Papers

According to officials, question papers are being transported under police escort and stored in designated strong rooms guarded round the clock. Access to strong rooms will be limited to authorised officials with valid identity cards.

Packets will be opened only at the notified time in the presence of the centre superintendents to prevent unauthorised access.

Candidates and Centres

Statewide, 4,38,565 students are expected to appear for the HSLC exams across 1,046 centres. A significant number of these centres are located in Guwahati, given its large student population.

School authorities in the city have advised students to reach centres well in advance, carry valid admit cards, and strictly follow examination guidelines.

Why It Matters

The HSLC examination is a critical academic milestone for students in Assam. For families in Guwahati, the tightened security measures aim to restore confidence in the examination process and ensure fairness after previous disruptions.

What Happens Next

Examinations will commence on February 10 as scheduled. Authorities have indicated that strict action will be taken against any instance of malpractice or protocol violation. Monitoring will continue throughout the examination period.
