In a heartfelt tribute to Assam’s beloved cultural icon Zubeen Garg, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has reserved 5,000 tickets exclusively for members of the Zubeen Garg Fan Club for the opening ceremony of the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 in Guwahati.
The tickets will be distributed from the GSA Office at Nehru Stadium, ensuring that fans of the late singer can be part of the historic moment on September 30, when India takes on Sri Lanka in the inaugural match at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium, Sarusajai.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, while making the announcement, said the gesture was meant to honor the enduring legacy of Zubeen Garg, who passed away in Singapore on September 19. “Zubeen da was not just an artist; he was the voice of Assam. This small gesture ensures his fans can come together to celebrate both cricket and culture in his memory,” Saikia noted.
The opening ceremony will also include a special tribute performance dedicated to Zubeen Garg, making his presence felt in spirit at the grand sporting event.
For Assam and the Northeast, the move symbolizes how the Son of the Soil continues to inspire unity, passion, and pride both on the cultural and sporting stage.
