CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Launches CM-FLIGHT: Assam’s Foreign Language Initiative to Train Youth for Jobs in Japan

Guwahati, Oct 12: In a landmark step towards global employment and skill development, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday launched the Chief Minister’s Foreign Language Initiative (CM-FLIGHT) at a special event held at the North East Skill Centre in Guwahati.

The initiative marks the beginning of Japanese language training for Assam’s youth, aimed at preparing them for high-paying job opportunities in Japan under an international partnership programme.

“This initiative is not just about language it’s about giving our youth the wings to work, learn and succeed globally,” CM Sarma said during the launch, adding that the project reflects the government’s long-term vision to make Assam a hub of skilled professionals.

Key Highlights of CM-FLIGHT

  • Target: Train 50,000 candidates from Assam for jobs in Japan by 2030 (expandable to 1 lakh).
  • Focus: Japanese language proficiency (JFT Basic / JLPT N4).
  • First Batch: 180 candidates to begin training under three international partners, ASEAN-ONE Co. Ltd, Jaceex Ventures LLP, and Meiko Career Partners Co. Ltd.
  • Opportunities: Eligible candidates will receive 5-year work visas in Japan with salaries up to ₹2 lakh per month.
  • Cost Sharing:
    • Total Course Cost: ₹1.8 lakh
    • Assam Govt: ₹1 lakh
    • Japan Govt: ₹50,000
    • Student: ₹30,000

India–Japan Collaboration

The initiative follows a bilateral understanding between the Governments of India and Japan to facilitate the placement of five lakh Indian youth in Japan by 2030. From this pool, Assam has been assured 50,000 seats, with the potential to expand based on performance and demand.

CM’s Address to Youth

During a Facebook Live session later in the evening, CM Sarma urged young people to actively participate in the programme and use it as a gateway to global exposure.

“We are not just sending youth abroad we are sending ambassadors of Assam’s talent, discipline, and culture,” the Chief Minister said.

The CM-FLIGHT programme aims to empower the next generation through language training, global skill certification, and overseas job opportunities, reinforcing Assam’s vision of youth-led development.
