Guwahati, Oct 2: As rain poured steadily through the afternoon, the city of Guwahati came alive with chants of “Asche Bochor Abar Hobe!” bidding an emotional farewell to Devi Durga on Vijaya Dashami.
Despite the downpour, thousands of devotees thronged the streets, carrying idols towards immersion ghats across the city from Lachit Ghat and Pandu Port to Bharalumukh and Fancy Bazar. The rhythmic beats of dhaak, conch shells, and devotional songs echoed through rain-soaked lanes, turning the farewell into a moving spectacle of devotion and unity.
This year’s immersion saw enhanced safety and traffic measures under the supervision of the Guwahati Traffic Police, ensuring smooth movement of idol processions despite challenging weather conditions. Security forces and volunteers were deployed at all major points to manage traffic and crowd flow.
“The rain couldn’t dampen our spirit it only made today more memorable,” said a devotee from Pandu, drenched yet smiling as she joined the final procession.
Women participated in the Sindoor Khela rituals at various puja mandaps earlier in the day, before gathering to bid adieu to the Goddess. At many locations, the air was filled with emotional goodbyes, tears, laughter, and hopes for her return next year.
As the idols were immersed in the mighty Brahmaputra, Guwahati’s skyline shimmered with lights reflecting off the rain, marking the end of Durga Puja 2025 with divine grace and heartfelt emotion.
