Guwahati, Oct 1: The Guwahati Traffic Police has issued an extensive traffic advisory ahead of Durga Puja idol immersion scheduled on October 2 and 3, 2025, starting from 10 AM onwards. The restrictions aim to ensure smooth movement and public safety during one of the city’s largest annual events.
According to the official press release from the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Traffic, the measures are designed to protect vulnerable groups, including children, women, senior citizens, and differently-abled persons, and to ensure free passage for ambulances, fire tenders, and school buses.
Key Traffic Regulations at Lachit Ghat (Fancy Bazar):
- Vehicles from Chandmari will be regulated at Guwahati Club and diverted through MC Road – FC Road – High Court East – MG Road – Lachit Ghat.
- From Tokobari, Paltanbazar, Ulubari, Rehabari, Birubari, Bishnupur, Athgaon, and Fatasil: traffic will move via Arya Nagar – A.K. Azad Road – Nepali Mandir – Godhuli Bazar – Vishal Point – Panbazar ROB – Pani Tanki – MG Road – Lachit Ghat.
- From Kumarpara and Lalganesh: routes include Bishnupur Road – Chabipool – Arya Nagar – A.K. Azad Road – Godhuli Bazar – MG Road – Lachit Ghat.
- From Ulubari and South Sarania: vehicles will travel via GS Road – Apsara – Janata Point – Nepali Mandir – Godhuli Bazar – MG Road.
- From Rajgarh, Bhangagarh, and Christianbasti: movement through GS Road – Rajgarh Road – Commerce College Point – Chandmari – Guwahati Club – MC Road – FC Road – MG Road.
- From Ganeshguri, Dispur, and Kahilipara: vehicles will follow R.G. Baruah Road (Zoo Road) – GNB Road – Guwahati Club – MC Road – MG Road.
- From Panbazar: routes will take H.B. Road – Mahamaya Point – Pani Tanki – MG Road – Lachit Ghat.
- From Bharalumukh and Santipur: vehicles will move via D.G. Road – Bharalumukh Point – A.T. Road – Panbazar ROB – MG Road – Lachit Ghat.
After immersion at Lachit Ghat, idol-carrying vehicles will exit via MG Road – D.G. Road – A.T. Road.
Traffic Plan for Pandu Port:
- Idol-carrying vehicles from Maligaon will use the Maligaon Chariali – Pandu route.
- From Adabari Tiniali, vehicles will move toward Pandu Port immersion ghat, exiting via Sadiapara (6 No. Colony).
- From Bharalumukh and Fatasil areas, movement will take place via A.T. Road and D.G. Road towards Pandu.
The police have also strictly prohibited vehicles carrying DJs, sound systems, or music equipment near the immersion ghats. Such vehicles will be stopped and diverted at pre-designated checkpoints.
“Public cooperation is key to maintaining order during immersion days. We request citizens to plan their travel accordingly,” said a senior police official.

The Guwahati Traffic Police has appealed to the public to follow diversions and avoid congestion-prone zones around Fancy Bazar, Panbazar, MG Road, Bharalumukh, Adabari, and Pandu areas during the immersion period.
