Guwahati, Oct 1: On the auspicious occasion of Maha Navami, the Beltola Lakhi Mandir in Guwahati became a serene centre of devotion as hundreds of devotees gathered to perform the sacred Kanya Puja rituals.
The ritual, which marks one of the most spiritually significant moments of Durga Puja, involves the worship of young girls as embodiments of Goddess Durga symbolising purity, strength, and divine energy. Clad in traditional attire, nine girls were seated and worshipped with offerings of flowers, sweets, fruits, and new clothes.
As priests chanted hymns and devotees offered prayers, the temple complex filled with the fragrance of incense and the rhythmic beats of the dhaak, creating a deeply spiritual atmosphere. The rituals were followed by community bhog prasad distribution, continuing Beltola’s long-standing tradition of inclusive celebration.
“Kanya Puja reminds us of the sacred feminine power within every household and community. Beltola Lakhi Mandir has upheld this ritual for generations,” said a local priest.
Maha Navami, which signifies the victory of good over evil, also marks the culmination of the nine days of worship during Durga Puja. At Beltola Lakhi Mandir, it was not just a ritual but a heartfelt expression of reverence and faith shared by the entire community.
