Guwahati, Sept 30: The ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 opened on a powerful and emotional note at the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) Stadium, Barsapara, as celebrated playback singer Shreya Ghoshal performed the Indian National Anthem before the start of the India vs Sri Lanka match.
Dressed in a graceful traditional ensemble, Shreya’s rendition of Jana Gana Mana echoed through the packed stadium, uniting thousands of spectators in a moment of pride and patriotism. Her soulful voice, coupled with the roar of the crowd, set a majestic tone for the tournament’s opening.
Fans cheered and waved the tricolour as players stood in formation on the field. The anthem performance was followed by loud applause and chants of “India! India!” reverberating across the venue.
The opening ceremony also featured a special tribute to the late musical legend Zubeen Garg, with performances by Papon, Joi Barua, and the Shillong Chamber Choir, making the event both a sporting and cultural milestone for Assam.
“It’s an honour to sing the National Anthem in my country, in Assam, where the energy and emotion are unmatched,” Shreya said after her performance.
The ceremony seamlessly merged patriotism, culture, and remembrance, marking a historic start to the Women’s World Cup in Guwahati.
