Nearly 2.5 Crore Voters Finalised for Assam Polls

Nearly 2.5 crore electors will be eligible to vote in Assam after the publication of the final electoral rolls for the Special Revision (SR) 2026, the Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Assam, announced on February 10.

The updated voter list includes 2,49,58,139 electors across 126 Legislative Assembly constituencies, including Guwahati’s five Assembly segments under Kamrup Metropolitan district.

As per the final electoral rolls published on February 10, 2026, Assam has 2,49,58,139 eligible voters across 126 Assembly constituencies. The list includes 1.24 crore male voters, 1.24 crore female voters, and 343 third-gender voters. The rolls will form the basis for upcoming elections in the state.

Statewide Electorate Figures

According to the CEO’s press note:

  • Total electors: 2,49,58,139
  • Male voters: 1,24,82,213
  • Female voters: 1,24,75,583
  • Third-gender voters: 343

The gender distribution remains nearly equal, reflecting a balanced electorate across Assam.

The final rolls show a decrease of 2,43,485 voters (0.97%) compared to the draft electoral rolls published on December 27, 2025.

What This Means for Guwahati

For Guwahati residents, these updated rolls directly impact the five Assembly constituencies under Kamrup Metropolitan, Dispur, Dimoria (SC), New Guwahati, Guwahati Central, and Jalukbari.

The finalised list determines who will be eligible to vote in the next Assembly elections and other electoral exercises in the city.

Residents who participated in the revision process, including first-time voters and those who filed corrections, can now verify their names in the updated roll.

How the Revision Was Conducted

The Special Revision process included:

  • House-to-house verification: November 22 to December 20, 2025
  • Draft roll publication: December 27, 2025
  • Claims and objections period: Open until January 22, 2026
  • Final publication: February 10, 2026

After reviewing claims, objections, and corrections, the rolls were finalised.

Appeal Process Available

The Election Commission has provided a structured appeal mechanism for voters:

  1. Appeals against decisions of the Electoral Registration Officer (ERO) can be filed before the District Magistrate within 15 days.
  2. A second appeal can be made before the Chief Electoral Officer within 30 days.

This ensures that eligible voters in Guwahati and across Assam can seek redress if discrepancies are found.

What Happens Next?

The final electoral rolls will serve as the official voter database for the upcoming elections in Assam.

Residents of Guwahati are advised to verify their details through official election portals or local election offices to ensure accuracy ahead of future polling exercises.
