Hatigaon Police on January 28 arrested three individuals for allegedly impersonating Income Tax officers and cheating two youths of ₹64,000 in the Hatigaon area of Guwahati, police said.

During the operation, officers seized ₹36,300 in cash and a car (AS01PC1382) that was allegedly used to carry out the offence.

Who Was Arrested

Police identified the accused as:

  • Abdullah Hussain (23), a resident of Bhagadattapur
  • Saddam Hussain, from Jhagrapar, Dhubri
  • Moyan Ali, from Gossaigaon

Abdullah Hussain was the first to be apprehended, following which further investigation led to the arrest of the other two, officials said.

How the Alleged Crime Took Place

According to preliminary findings, the accused allegedly posed as Income Tax officials and targeted two youths in Hatigaon.

Police said the victims were taken from Hotel Seven Heaven to Nath Jewellery on Sewali Path, where they were coerced into purchasing a gold necklace worth ₹64,000.

In addition to the jewellery purchase, the accused allegedly took:

  • ₹30,000 in cash, and
  • ₹30,000 through an online transfer

The total amount involved in the case stands at ₹64,000, police added.

During the arrests, Hatigaon Police recovered:

  • ₹36,300 in cash
  • A car bearing registration number AS01PC1382, allegedly used during the crime

These items have been taken into custody as part of the investigation.
