The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Thursday, January 8, launched ‘Udai’, the official Aadhaar mascot aimed at making Aadhaar-related services and information easier to understand for citizens.
While the mascot was unveiled at a national event in Thiruvananthapuram, officials said the initiative is intended for users across India, including Guwahati, where Aadhaar services are widely used for welfare schemes, banking, and digital verification.
UIDAI has launched ‘Udai’, the official Aadhaar mascot, to simplify communication around Aadhaar services such as updates, authentication, and secure data sharing. The initiative is expected to improve public understanding of Aadhaar-related processes for users in Guwahati and across Assam.
What UIDAI Said About the Mascot
In an official statement, the Unique Identification Authority of India said the Aadhaar mascot ‘Udai’ (उदय) will make Aadhaar information more relatable and people-friendly.
According to the Union Ministry of Electronics and IT, the mascot will help explain Aadhaar services, including updates, authentication, offline verification, selective sharing of information, responsible usage, and adoption of new technologies.
Relevance for Guwahati and Assam
In Guwahati, Aadhaar plays a central role in access to government schemes, digital banking, mobile connections, and identity verification. Officials said simplified communication through the mascot could help residents, especially senior citizens and first-time digital users, better understand Aadhaar processes.
Aadhaar enrolment and update centres across Guwahati are expected to gradually adopt mascot-led communication materials for awareness and guidance.
Public Participation Behind ‘Udai’
UIDAI said the mascot was created through an open national design and naming competition hosted on the MyGov platform.
The authority received 875 entries from across the country, including students, professionals, and designers. A multi-tier evaluation process was followed to ensure transparency and fairness before final selection.
Winners of the Design and Naming Competitions
Arun Gokul from Thrissur, Kerala, won the first prize in the mascot design competition. Idris Dawaiwala from Pune, Maharashtra, and Krishna Sharma from Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, secured the second and third positions, respectively.
In the mascot name competition, Riya Jain from Bhopal won the first prize, followed by Idris Dawaiwala of Pune and Maharaj Saran Chellapilla of Hyderabad.
Mascot Unveiled by UIDAI Chairman
The mascot was officially unveiled by Neelkanth Mishra, Chairman of UIDAI, at a function held in Thiruvananthapuram. Winners of the competitions were also felicitated during the event.
Officials said the mascot represents Aadhaar as a trusted, inclusive, and citizen-centric identity platform.
Why This Matters for Guwahati
With Guwahati rapidly adopting digital governance and service delivery, clear communication around Aadhaar usage is becoming increasingly important. Misunderstanding of Aadhaar processes often leads to delays in accessing benefits and services.
Authorities believe ‘Udai’ can help bridge this gap by presenting information in a simple, visual, and approachable manner for residents.
What Happens Next
UIDAI is expected to roll out mascot-based communication across digital platforms, awareness campaigns, and service centres nationwide. Aadhaar users in Guwahati may begin seeing ‘Udai’ in informational materials and outreach initiatives in the coming months.
