Guwahati’s Lokapriya Gopinath Bardoloi International Airport handled a record 7.01 million passengers in 2025, its highest-ever annual figure. The total included 3.5 million domestic arrivals and 3.4 million domestic departures, driven by increased travel demand and expanded international connectivity, officials said.
Growth in international passenger movement
In addition to domestic traffic, the airport also recorded notable international passenger numbers. Officials confirmed that 45,423 international passenger arrivals and 45,474 international passenger departures were handled during 2025.
The airport is managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, a subsidiary of Adani Enterprises. Authorities credited infrastructure upgrades and route expansion for the growth in international traffic.
Expansion of international routes
According to an official statement, LGBI Airport expanded its international network in 2025 with the introduction of direct flights to Paro, Bangkok, and Singapore. These new routes significantly contributed to higher international passenger traffic and increased Aircraft Traffic Movements (ATMs).
During the year, the airport recorded:
- 47,550 domestic ATMs
- 1,000 international ATMs
Single-day passenger record
The airport also achieved a single-day passenger record on October 5, handling 22,089 passengers, including transit travellers. Officials described this as a key indicator of rising demand and improved operational capacity.
Cargo handling milestones
Beyond passenger traffic, Guwahati airport witnessed strong growth in cargo operations. The airport handled a total of 32,990 metric tons (MT) of cargo in 2025, underlining its growing importance as a logistics hub in the Northeast.
In December 2025, the Guwahati International Airport Limited (GIAL) Cargo Terminal recorded several milestones:
- 1,362 MT of total cargo handled – the highest-ever monthly volume
- 374 MT of perishable cargo was handled during the month
- 60 MT handled on December 22, 2025, marking the highest-ever single-day cargo tonnage
Why this matters for Guwahati and Assam
The record-breaking passenger and cargo figures highlight Guwahati’s emergence as a major aviation and logistics gateway for the Northeast. Improved air connectivity is expected to support tourism, trade, and economic activity across Assam and neighbouring states.
Officials said the steady rise in cargo movement also positions the airport as a critical node for perishable goods and time-sensitive shipments from the region.
What happens next
Airport authorities indicated that further route expansion, capacity enhancement, and cargo infrastructure development are planned to sustain growth in the coming years. Additional international connections and logistics-focused initiatives are expected to be announced as demand continues to rise.
